The Top 3 Australian Bands
Silverchair! | The Living End
Silverchair is one of Australia's most known and liked bands. The group consists of Daniel Johns, Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou all from Newcastle in New South Wales. The boys have known each other since primary school, and they started writing songs together in Grade 9. They were known as The Innocent Criminals before becoming Silverchair in 1994. They have released 3 albums so far. Their first, Frogstomp was released in 1995, and it was a an instant smash hit, debuting at No #1 on the Australian Charts. Their first hit was Tomorrow which sat at the top of The Australian Charts for 6 weeks. Their second album, Freakshow, was also a hit, containing songs such as Freak, Abuse Me and Cemetery. After not hearing from the boys for a while, they're back with their new album Neon Ballroom. Anthem for the Year 2000, their new song debuted at No #3 on The Australian Music Charts. A sure sign that these boys are back and staying for a long time. I do not have any link so you can buy Silverchair merchandise yet, but it is coming soon! |
The Living End is an Australian rockabilly punk group from Melbourne, Victoria and the only way for these guys is up. The band consists of Chris Cheney (Vocals and Guitar), Trav Dempsey (Vocals and drums) and Scott Owen (Vocals and upright bass). In 1996 they scored the prime spot as the opener for Greenday's Australian tour. Their song Second Solution/Prisoner of Society was recorded and released in late 1997. It went almost straight to No #1 on the local alternative charts. It peaked at No #4 on the mainstream charts. In the 1997 Triple J hottest 100 it came in at No #15. It went Platinum on the 19th of May 1998. They won the 1998 Aria for highest selling single. Their self-titled album debuted No #1 on the Aria Charts. They have appeared at most of the major festivals in summer including Homebake in Sydney, Pushover in Melbourne and Big Day Out nationally. They are currently the support band for The Offspring on their American tour. These guys have alot of talent and we certainly have not heard the last of them. Savage Garden
Savage Garden is one of Australia's pop groups from Logan City, Queensland. The band consists of two people, Darren Hayes (Lead and Background vocals) and Daniel Jones (Keyboard, Giutar and vocals). In 1997 Savage Garden released their first album self-titled. The group were an instant hit. Savage Garden are one of the few Australian groups to reach #1 on the American charts. Some other groups included INXS, Men At Work and Natalie Imbruglia. Savage Garden have released a new single named The Animal Song. It is my personal favourite of their songs. Savage Garden are still a very young group and I'm sure that they will be around for alot longer yet. If you would like to buy some Savage Garden merchandise please click on this writing.
